ok so warm-ups actually matter apparently

Stupid question but — did anyone else just... not do a proper warm-up before runs? Like I'd basically step outside and just go. And then wonder why the first 10 minutes felt absolutely awful and my shins were protesting. Someone at the gym told me to try dynamic stretches before instead of just static ones and honestly it's made a difference. Leg swings, hip circles, a few high knees on the spot — nothing fancy, takes maybe 5-6 minutes. I actually managed a full 3k last week without that horrible stiff feeling at the start which has been killing me for months. To be fair I don't fully understand why it works, something about getting the muscles warm before you load them I think? But I'm not going to question it too much when it's clearly doing something.

the 5 min mark used to feel like my legs weren't mine, took me way too long to figure out why

shin splints from cold starts are so real — dynamic work beforehand makes such a difference to blood flow to the muscles

used to do the same, just go straight into it and then be confused why the first km felt like death

yeah the first km confusion was real, took me embarrassingly long to connect the dots

same, used to skip it completely in the gym too — paid for it
