switching up your routine when seasons change
Right so this is something I get asked about constantly at this time of year. The weather shifts, your skin shifts, and suddenly what worked in January just... doesn't.
Honestly the main thing I'd say is slow down before you buy anything new. Most people's first instinct is to add something — a new serum, a lighter moisturiser — when actually the better move is to just strip back and see what your skin actually needs now.
For me personally, going into spring I swap my heavier night cream for something gel-based and that alone makes a noticeable difference. Less congestion round my nose, skin feels less suffocated. I also drop back to exfoliating once a week instead of twice — skin tends to be more reactive when the temperature's jumping around.
SPF is the one thing I don't adjust. Stays the same all year, no negotiation on that one.
I'm not a dermatologist so if you've got something specific going on, worth seeing someone — but for general seasonal transitions, less is usually more.
