the humidity thing is making me rethink everything
So I've been noticing something a bit odd lately. My skin feels... sticky? But also somehow tight at the same time which makes zero sense and yet here we are.
I'm not a dermatologist but I've been reading about this a fair bit and I think what's happening is that humidity tricks you into thinking your skin is hydrated when it's actually just damp on the surface. Like there's a difference between water sitting on your skin and water actually being in your skin. Barrier stuff basically. I've been reaching for lighter layers in summer because anything heavier just sits there and goes nowhere, but then by midday my skin feels like it's forgotten what moisture is.
What's actually been helping me — and I say this with full awareness that everyone's skin is different — is cutting back on actives a bit and just being more consistent with the stuff that actually seals hydration in. Less impressive sounding routine, more results. I've also been more deliberate about taking my collagen in the morning rather than forgetting and doing it at random times, which I feel has made a difference to how plump my skin looks by afternoon. Could be placebo. Genuinely unsure. But I'll take it.
The thing that gets me is I always assume summer = oily = don't moisturise as much. And every single year I end up with a compromised barrier by August because of it. You'd think six years of obsessing over this stuff would've fixed that particular habit. Apparently not lol.
